Welcome
This website has been designed to enable ex and serving Communications Branch Personnel of the Royal New Zealand Navy to maintain contact with fellow Communicators and to advise members of items of interest as they arise.
We would especially invite serving members of the Communictions Branch to come and visit the site and to access the knowledge of the retired members in any communications projects which they may be assigned. Remember there is years of experience available on tap and all you have to do is ask.
We hope you enjoy your visit and if you have something to add then please don't hesitate to contact us.

The rumour is Wellington for the next Reunion. That being the case, could we dispense with the Dine and Dance? Not only would it save money, but we wouldn’t have to yell to make ourselves heard over the bands that I’ve encountered at various reunions. The waterfront in Wellington has some great venues.
Good idea Jimmy! I take it all back in past reference to “clorff-eared sparkers”. Yep, some of us buntings had a problem too matey. I think even poor old Barry Chivers had to find refuge way down aft somewhere to escape the noise, even tho it was quite pleasant in a way.
Ditto Jim re Wellington …. With all your talent Jim I cannot understand why “Her Indoors” will not dance with you? I guess we have better things to do, i.e. talk more BS, rewrite BR222, etc, and hold up the bar at the same time!
“Her Indoors” has two left feet…
Thankyou David to you and your committee. A great and enjoyable reunion allround even tho we were a bit low on numbers.Cheers all.
Bill B
Hello Bill Bartlett. All sounds good. I may actually be able to attend that reunion. Bit closer to my area of abode, being Greymouth. Do u remember me Bill, long time no see. Did u know George Cust, Cheif Yeoman, he died about six months ago, lived in Halswell, Canterbury. Jim Hastie Leading Signalman. 1953 to 1965.
Thank you Committee for organizing a successful reunion. I appreciate that much work went into getting it all to together. It was great to catch up with old shipmates. Next time I will remember to wear my medals JIm! Turning to the next reunion in Wellington, can some one remind the aged watch keepers that the Back Bar in the Midland Hotel is no longer there!

I’ll vote for a Wellington venue
Caddy
Wellington seems a good place for us so will vote accordingly.
Many thanks to the hardworkers of the Committee for putting on a good reunion 2012 – Auckland is not the most helpful place in the world to try and organise reunions.
Cheers to all,
Bootlace.
To the Organising Committee, Bravo Zulu, agree the music was fine but we were all too close to it,The liquor costs made meet eat more and drink less, don’t know if that was a good thing or not as have gained a few extra kilos, thanks again for a good reunion,.and hopefully we see evereyone in Wellington.
What about bringing it to the Mainland? Wellington has always been a strange place (like most of the north island) – all of the men talk funny! Reminds me of trying to walk up Queen St in uniform in the 50′s. Guess the buntings would be happy though. Besides which the beer is better and cheaper here, not to mention the weather. Suggest Oturehua as a venue?
Casper
Geez Casper – are you trying to drum up business for your homestay! – We wouldn’t all fit mate!
oturewho???jeezuus..but i have to say a visit to the country would be nice, havnt been there in over 50yrs.. for that matter what about twizel or cromwell loverly places in march..oh the memories…
Such a mercenary thought never crossed my mind, Jim! However could do a special mid winter tent site rate – it would certainly save on the breakfast bill amongst the old and feeble – and we could recall those wonderful crisp Irirangi mornings.
Casper
Hi everybody,
Great time had by all. I must have the latest type of hearing aid, ” Didn’t even know there was a band there” Unbeleivable.
Look forward to the next one
Aspro
Wellington sounds a good idea, have to go along with the others re the vibes from the
band etc, just a thought, apart from the golf, if who is organising and final destination,
could there be some sort of other sporting event that we could include, even a possible
uckers game
Now here’s something from left field, How about having the next one in Australia!!! There’s some nice places there that do very well for a reunion, Otago Association has every 5th one in Australia.
Why OZ –not too many Maccas amongst us—Why does the Otago assoc have every 5th reunion in OZ?? No Maccas on the original HMNZS OTAGO(maybe John Bullock)–or
is the Otago Association something away from the Andrew??? Otago was settled by Scots–maybe from some of the convict stock x OZ ..Wgtn sounds fine for this old fellow
–Now I’ll go and have another beer Skin K.
Hey Noel why not ? would save on travelling for me Sydney’s good; got bridge, an opera house and airport in town, you can even find a Stienlager here and there. Chance are your could get some vit D as well and you wouldn’t get blown away.
Talking about sporting events – what about ten pin bowling – nice alley right in the city ??? anyone interested – (even the wives could swing a bowl or two)
Jim Hastie LSIG NZ14757. If it is Wellington I may be able to attend, however I wont know any of the later personnel, I left the Navy in 1965. Know Barry Chivers(I think), Knew Arthur Venus and Yeoman Glassey and of course good ole George Cust, went to his funeral.
Long time no see Jim, Charles Conroy ( horse) ( Hogan) 31st V.S 1954 we were u/t Tamaki and we did the Far East on Rotoiti 1958/59. I am in touch with Myles Dalyrymple he is in Alexandra now.
Charles Conroy
Yes Horse those were the days EH pity it all had to end, but that is the way of the world. I hope you keeping well, I seem to be weathering the storm okay. Not much wrong with me medically at present, hope it stays that way. Have to go to Florida in a 15 days, my son is marrying an american in Fort Lauderdale. He was in the Navy to, now is a chief Engineer on a Super Yacht in Ft Laudersale, doing very well for himself, unlike his silly ole Dad. Nice to hear from you. Poor ole Mr Chivers, hope is okay as well. When Miles calls in here on his way to Nelson, I will let him sample some of George Custs Navy Rum. Cheers Jim
OOJ Miles dalrymple wants to make contact with you . He hasnt seen you since Black Prince. I have been keeping in touch with him , he isnt too well He had a stroke and is doing quite well , but would like to make contact with an old class mate.
Charles Conroy
Hello Charlie. Miles Dalrymple contacted me by phone a couple of weeks ago, he is going to call in and see me in Greymouth when he shifts to Nelson in about 7 months or so. Is in Alexandra at present, have been there a couple of times, not a bad place.
Barry Walden
Hopefully can make it from OZ. Sounds good, should be able to make a special effort as have family still living in Upper Hutt.
Hi Charles I wasn’t aware that Miles(Dally) lived in Alex..would have visited him long since had I known, as I lived in Central Otago for the last 3 years. Am travelling through there on the 12th or 13th this month and would be pleased to call in and say g’day but can’t find him in the phone book. If you feel you could give me his address and that he might like a quick visit please e mail me at davitook@clear.net.nz. Cheers Casper
Re sports: Like we did at golf someone needs to put their hand up and say “I will organise it” and get it done – not difficult folks
