BOYLAND, James Albert (Jim). RNZN 2102 MID 1940 – 1952. WWII and Korea. Passed away peacefully, with family at his side, on Saturday January 31, 2015, in his 90th year. Beloved husband and soulmate of Flo and sadly missed father and father-in-law of Lyn (deceased), Karin, Michael, Robyn and Pat, Glenn and Adva, Brett, and Debbie. Loving step-father of Rex and Jan, Peter and Julie, Karen, Sue and Chris, Nigel, Wendy and John, and Dave. Dearly loved Grandad and great Grandad of his many grandchildren. A service for Jim will be held at the Founders Chapel of Remembrance, 117 Rickit Street, Taupo, on Tuesday February 3, at 2.00pm, followed by burial in the Taupo Public cemetery. DENCH, Reaburn (Ray/Sailor) Cecil, RNZN, NZ5201, Leading Stoker, WW2: On January 26th 2015 in his 92nd year. Died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Arohanui Hospice. Loved husband and best friend of the late Andrea Merle. Loved Dad to Peter and Sheridan, Paul, and Kathryn (Kath). LAVERTY Richard (Dick) CDR, VRD*, RNZNVR, S920775. (CO TOR 1981-1984). He enlisted on 08-01-1953 after being called up for CMT. He was commissioned on 17-07-1955, assuming the rank of Sub Lieutenant, and went on to serve efficiently for 30 years, posting to the Retired List of Officers in the rank of Commander on 31-12-1983. He was awarded the Volunteer Reserve Decoration with an additional clasp for 25 years service. During his service he was an associate professor of pharmacology at Otago University spending his entire RNZNVR Career posted to Toroa. He served onboard HMNZS’s Bellona, Black Prince and Canterbury during the 1950s and onboard Motor Launches (ML’s) in the early 1970s. CDR Laverty’s funeral will be held Monday 19 January at 1100 at St Pauls Cathedral, The Octagon. Dress No. 2W
RICHMOND, Margaret Agnes (nee Hume). (WRNZS 1143). 8-9-1934-19-1-2015 Passed away peacefully at Matariki Hospital after a courageous battle, hard fought.Life partner and soulmate of George. Much loved mother of the late Kim William, Tania and Akutina, Lance and Kaye, Loving Nan of Jade, Shea, Kimiora, Tamatea, Daniel, Samantha, Maiya, and Joshua. Special Nanny Ma of Rehutai. Loving Mum, Nan and Aunty of her many extended whanau and mokopuna. Many thanks to the staff at Matariki Hospital and district nurses for her excellent care. HARRISON, Patrick Haldane RNZN 11151 Passed away peacefully in his sleep 13th January 2015 aged 86. SHIU, Hang Che ‘QSM’ (No 1) passed away peacefully on 29 December 2014. He was well liked and known in the Royal New Zealand Navy. He is survived by his wife Boon Shau Chow. A loving father and father-in-law to Yuen Ching Shiu (Raymond) and So Kwai Lai (Ida), Wai Lai Shiu (Emily), Yuen Chuen Shiu (Pierre) and Chan Tin Cheung Shiu (Cynthia), Yuen Wing Shiu (Stephen) and Yin Yu Shiu (Sandy) grandfather of two grandsons and two granddaughters. A service will be held at the Naval Memorial Chapel of St. Christopher, Devonport Naval Base, Queens Parade, Auckland on Tuesday 13 January at 10.00am, followed by interment at North Shore Memorial Park Cemetery at 1.00pm. SLATTERY, Owen Woods (Owen) Born 18 June 1920. Passed away on 17 December 2014. Owen Woods Slattery passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family at his home in his 95th year. Loved husband of Gwen, much loved and admired father to Owen, Anne, Joy, Della, Kay, Robert and Beth. Adored Poppa of Breeze, Jennie, Stephanie, Reuben, Nadia, Briar, Danuel, Gina, Joshua and Ryan.
