JEFFERIES, Frank Herbert RNZN, CPO, C5355/ NZV104103, B.E.M. Died peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, aged 95 years, in the presence of family. Much loved husband of Barbara (Barbie). Former husband of the late Joan. Loved father and father-in-law of John and Moreen; Sue; Sandra and Ron; Michael and Kaye; and Judy and Des. Stepfather and stepfather-in-law of Tina and Alex; and Sue and Derek. Grandad of Steven, Brad, Scott, and Julia; Jacqueline, and Natalie; Jorja, Jacob, Jack, and Charlie. Great-grandad of Charlotte, and Henry; and Joey, and Finn. Loved uncle of all his nieces and nephews. A memorial service and celebration of Frank’s life will be held in the Papanui RSA at 55 Bellevue Avenue, Papanui, on Sunday, May 3, at 2.00pm.

O’CONNOR, Basil (Snow). RNZN 4141 ex HMNZS Leander, HMNZS Achilles HMS Lotus. Passed away peacefully Friday 24 April 2015, aged 94 years. Loved husband of the late Margaret and father of David (Doc), Peter, father-in-law of Margie and Sue, Grandfather of Mark, Andrew, Alice, Michael. Dearly loved husband of the late Teana and much loved father and father in law of Reg and Kathy, loved and looked up to Grandad of Nicholas and Megan (Taiwan) and Sam (Dunedin) dear friend of Diane and Terry Moore. A celebration of Reg’s life will be held in St Andrews Presbyterian Church Ardwick Street, Gore on Wednesday, April 22 at 11.00am then leaving for Gore Cemetery.

DENCH, Opal Louise (nee Taylor) (Crossley). Ex RNZN 1210 Dental Assistant Of Carterton. On 19 April 2015, after a determined battle. In her 75th year. Beloved wife of the late Des Crossley, and the late Allan Dench. Much loved mother and ‘Superior Role Model’ of Karen, Jacqueline and Neal Mateara, Colin and Sheila, Des and Tracey. Beloved Nana of Tim, Erin, and Leah; Jasmin, and Nikki. Loved sister of Lenora Nysse, and the late Eddie Taylor. A loved sister-in-law, auntie and friend to many. PAPPS Clarence Roland (Bob),  NZD2069 Life Member of the Nelson Branch, RNZNA, passed away Thursday, in Takaka. He was 92 years of age. Bob was a JP and also believed to be the longest serving member of the RSA. For this he was awarded the RSA Gold Star and later the RSA Gold Bar. Additionally Bob was awarded the Queens Service Medal. Bob joined the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy in 1940, serving in various ships through the Mediterranean Sea, Indian and Pacific Oceans. For his time in the Mediterranean, he was awarded the George Cross Commemoration Medal for ‘Services in the Defence of Malta’. Originally drafted to HMS Neptune, he was fortunate in not making the vessel, however he later served in HMNZS Leander, sister to Neptune. The funeral for Bob will be held in Church of Epiphany, 42 Commercial Street, Takaka, at 1100 Tuesday April 21st.

Roger will be meeting them at the Airport and taking Trev directly back to Karangahape Marae, Matangirau, After speaking with Hori McGarvey, our intentions are to meet at the Dairy Flat BP Petrol/Food MSA just 16km north of Oteha Valley Rd on Wed departing there 9am. The trip to the marae is about 3hrs 30min. Those wishing to join up with us can meet us there. Our kaumatua will be with us. We’re looking at arriving at the Marae at about 1pm.   • aaahh red the painter. the sharpest mind I have ever know. could cut you dead with a look or a comment. knew more tall tales and true than I could ever remember, and his memory of jokes had me with sore stomach muscles, ill be at his funeral
